Venetia Mine is planning to implement advanced mining automation systems to improve the safety and productivity of the underground operation.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the position of the Senior Foreman: Shift Operations Control Room who is responsible for coordinating and controlling underground mining processes by allocating and managing resources (workplaces, people and equipment), in conjunction with the Underground Shift Supervisor, and according to the Shift Schedule for optimum, efficient and effective utilisation of assets to attain the production targets for the shift.
The incumbent will perform his/her duties in the Control Room on surface while providing decision support to and co-operating closely with the Shift Supervisor who is responsible for managing the underground operation in his/her area during the shift.

KEY RESULTS AREAS:
Reviewing and updating the Shift Schedule together with the Shift Supervisor at the beginning of the shift before implementing it for execution;
Monitoring, coordinating and optimising mining activities during the shift to ensure adherence to the Shift Schedule;
Providing operational advice and decision support to the personnel working underground during the shift;
Facilitating the execution of all planned mining and engineering activities for the shift in accordance with operating, maintenance and other schedules, and the allocation of resources as required;
Coordinating shift handover by checking the status and completion of the scheduled mining and engineering activities, the availability of resources required for the shift, compiling relevant documentation and reports, and communicating these to team members of the crew for the next shift; and
Performing identified administrative duties according to legal and operational procedural requirements.
Note: Overall accountability for the safety, operation and performance of the TMM fleet during the shift is carried by the Shift Supervisor working underground.
Perform administrative duties according to legal requirements such as dealing with the reporting and recording of any incidents/accidents/environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner by informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales and in accordance with Company procedures.
Assist with maintaining a safe underground production environment by monitoring the location and movement of TMM and machines and assist supervisory personnel with blast clearance.
Utilise the functionality provided by the various systems in the Control Room to monitor safety hazards, including environmental conditions (temperature/humidity/gasses/weather).
Co-ordinate emergency procedures and evacuations (planned and emergency). Complete emergency reports, inform responsible officials and personnel in affected areas, and assist with accounting for underground workers in places of safety.
Update or change activities on the Shift Schedule in accordance with operational and maintenance exceptions, prioritise and allocate resources as required. Where these are available, use technical systems capability.
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT
Ensure clear communication according to the correct timescales with underground machine operators during the shift to facilitate the correct assignment of work and safe and efficient operation/performance of the TMM fleet.
Utilise the functionalities provided by the various mining technical systems to monitor, control and optimise the drilling and rock support, cleaning, loading and hauling processes during the shift. Coordinate, monitor, and report on mining activities to ensure adherence to mine standards and operational targets.
Assist with the management of all aspects of the TMM fleet, including operator issues and work towards successful completion of production work on the shift.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of various mining processes to ensure operational optimization.
Communicate operational information and changes, including machine availability and performance, to relevant stakeholders to minimise delays in the mining activities during the shift. Create work orders for equipment breakdowns, record breakdown data (incl. artisan feedback), and coordinate the repair and return to production of TMM.
Continuously analyse relevant mining activities during the shift to recommend or implement improvements and changes to maximise outputs.
Ensure that production data and all work undertaken is recorded and logged in detail with integrity to an appropriate standard via the systems available.
Produce shift reports that include detailed maintenance and production results to the requirements of the operation and end users.
Monitor supply of services (e.g., ventilation, power, water), consumables usage (e.g. fuel consumption) and delivery of supplies and consumables.
Co-ordinate shift hand-over by checking log sheets, status of physical mining activities, and communication to relevant personnel.
Manage users on the TMM biometric access control system, perform administrative functions on the system and keep a record of deviations.
Initiate artisan call-outs for breakdowns.
Liaise with the maintenance department on all issues affecting machine performance during the shift.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)
Grade 12/ Std 10/ N3 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
Blasting Certificate for Underground Hard Rock / Equivalent Qualification. (For internal Venetia Mine candidates an Open Pit Blasting Certificate will be considered).
Underground Shift Boss certificate.
Minimum of 3-5 years underground development mining experience of which at least 2 years must have been as a Shift Supervisor / Controller.
Knowledge and experience of:Underground mining practices and related operations environment.
Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.
3 years’ experience in operation of a fleet management system.
A Supervisory qualification will be advantageous.
Code EB Driver’s License.
Required classification as per VTS(Dover) testing for the role.
Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness Certificate) to work underground.
